JUMPER Steven Gould's Jumper* is one of my comfort reads.** There's a copy tucked on my side of the bed for those moments when something known is wanted. I was both thrilled and nervous when I learned that it was being made into a major motion picture. The plot is excellent and worthy of the big screen, yet when was the last time the big screen ever did justice to a book?*** I don't want to be "that" type of fan (you know, the whole "Han shot first" school of purity****), but I'm somewhat concerned given that an additional novel (Jumper, Griffin's Story) has been published to provide back story for the plot. I'm going to keep my finger's crossed. I would appreciate it if you would do so as well. * Here's an excerpt. ** The Blue Castle by Lucy Maud Montgomery is t'other. You have to love a story about the ugly ducking who comes out on top. *** We've only a few more weeks until we see what has become of The Golden Compass. If you haven't read the first volume of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, promise me that you'll do so before you head out to the theatre. You'll kick yourself if you don't. **** I think I heard your gasp from here. Don't fret, I firmly believe in the original trilogy and do my very best every day to ignore the dreadful prequels. 11/19/2007
