HAWAII

So, Hawaii -- I've never been. That's going to change this weekend when Derek I fly out to attend a wedding.

Hawaii lives in my brain as something stitched together from the Kodak 8mm movies of Hula dancing* that my mother brought back (along with a Don Ho album or two**) from her vacation in the 70s and the Brady Bunch.

Yes, the Brady Bunch. You know, Mike takes the entire to family to Hawaii on vacation, Bobby screws things up by messing with an ancient tiki idol and hilarity/drama ensues (for three episodes). We've already made a pact to let sleeping ancient tiki idols lie. We've also made a pact not to anger Pele by bringing lava rock home with us.***

It's truly a bummer as I'm someone who in an alternate life would live on a beach in Nova Scotia spending much of my time walking to and fro collecting bits and pieces of flotsam and jetsam. I'm going to avoid using the term beachcomber as that brings something altogether different to mind for a certain generation of Canadians.**** That would be all three of you.*****

* If memory serves , the films died a valiant death at the hands of Dave Chevalier in post-Challenger disaster inspired performance art piece that included a toy space shuttle, the hula films, gasoline and a match.

** Ah Don Ho, perhaps best known for Tiny Bubbles. You must love any song that's about champagne:

"Tiny bubbles in the wine,
make me happy, make me feel fine,
tiny bubbles make me warm all over
with a feeling that I'm gonna love you 'til the end of time."

*** If you've made error of carting home lava, don't fret. Rainbow Moon will handle the return of your lava rock to Hawaii. The archives of return rocks are well worth a read.

**** Raise your hand if you were emotionally scarred by the likes of Relic.

***** I read somewhere that the average age of the online viewer is now twelve. Actually, I just made that up.
