MY PRECIOUS

My favourite catalogue of the season arrived earlier this week. It's the Tiffany & Co. beauty that's separated into two parts: his and hers. Hers is full colour, perfect bound, pretty and depicts all manner of shiny things. His is something altogether different: thin, black and white with a few cursory staples, but most importantly, all the prices.

The his 'n hers catalogues are somewhat alien to my Santa Cruz educated husband, in fact, it's alien to me as well. Perhaps the alternate reality Chawazeks would know.

Alternate reality Heather would thumb through the catalogue somewhat distractedly while thinking about whether or not she'd remembered to make an appointment for a bikini wax. Alternate reality Derek would look at the dog-eared corners and then pick something altogether different.

Otherwise, I play the catalogue game. You know, you flip through the catalogue and pick something from every spread. It's a snap with something as tasteful as Tiffany & Co., but far more entertaining with something like the SkyMall catalogue. It can become quite tortuous when you reach the Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings collections. Nothing says I love you like The One Ring:

"One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all,
And in the darkness bind them."
