DOWNWARD SPIRAL

I came across the following gem in the June 5th issue of the New Yorker in a lengthy article on the life of Oriana Fallaci where she's quoted as writing the following :

"I used to be truly fond of Federico Fellini. Since our tragic encounter, I'm a lot less fond. To be exact, I'm no longer fond of him. That is, I don't like him at all."

I love it. I think it's worthy of one of those online generator thingys where you can fill in the blank, select singular or plural and even gender (or lack thereof).

"I used to be truly fond of Mel Gibson. Since our tragic encounter, I'm a lot less fond. To be exact, I'm no longer fond of him. That is, I don't like him at all."

It should read "...his tragic encounter", but whatever.

"I used to be truly fond of wearing shorts. Since our tragic encounter, I'm a lot less fond. To be exact, I'm no longer fond of them. That is, I don't like them at all."

"I used to be truly fond of Cosmopolitans. Since our tragic encounter, I'm a lot less fond. To be exact, I'm no longer fond of them. That is, I don't like them at all."

What's your downward spiral?
