WHAT I LEARNED IN NEW YORK Given my recent history with all adventures thyroid I was somewhat dismayed with the thought of New York's 90+ degrees and high humidity. "I don't do well in the heat" had become my mantra and the motivation behind not wanting to head out the the playa again this year. New York blew that sucker clear out of the water. I can do well in the heat. I am not a delicate flower. That said, I much prefer the more temperate climate of my adopted city and there's a very good chance that the Mounties will arrive at my door any day and strip me of my badge of Canadian hardiness. There are benefits to visiting New York during extreme weather. Fashion goes right out the window and if you're at all intimidated by the fine figures of New York misses, there's nothing like 100+ weather to strip everyone (and I do mean everyone) of their glamour. Do check out Derek's most excellent Apple Sweat. It's a wonderful visual diary of our adventures in the streets of New York during their record heat wave last week. 08/11/2006
