GRAVES' DISEASE IS SO SIX MONTHS AGO The fun doesn't stop here at Casa Chawazek.* While I had thought that I'd contracted a wicked case of poison oak or ivy from a toilet seat at the Denver Airport,** a more qualified mind has deducted that I have Shingles. 2004 is quickly becoming a banner year for adventures in health, or lack thereof. Everything you may have heard about pain and Shingles is unfortunately true. I have a much better appreciation for class 2 medications and the joy they bring. Percocet is my new best friend given the lack of hallucinations encountered while taking Vicodan during the great e.coli fiasco of 2000. * Champ + Powazek = Chawazek. Alas, there are no takers chez nous for this proposed name change. ** Insanity peppers, I know, but how else to explain the deteriorating landscape of the back of my left thigh? Despite my Canadian youth camping in the great outdoors, I've never encountered poison oak or ivy. Granted, I did have one adventure with a Sumac tree that left me coated in calamine lotion, but really, that now seems piddly in comparison. 11/ 2/2004
