DESIGNER EYE FOR THE TEMPLATE GUY Dear internet, I love you very much, but I'm so very tired of seeing the same six templates. Your wardrobe is growing tiresome and you should think about heading out to the mall for some fancy new duds. Love, Heather Tangent 1: While I appreciate the ease of self-publishing, I long for the diversity of the time before weblogs (BW) when life was more than a two or three column layout. I too am guilty of this sin having ripped the heart out of my Jezebel earlier this year. And yes, there was more to life BW than people sharing photographs of their cats, despite what you've read. Is it that weblogs don't lend themselves to this kind of creativity? We have weblogs, photoblogs, audioblogs, moblogs, etc., but each is so segmented that there is very little crafting into self-contained moments. Take Jason's 0sil8, for example. I adore the individual gems of thoughtful design. Perhaps I have my head stuck up my ass and it's out there and I've become to comfortable in my known universe. Tangent 2: Yay for standards, but they are killing design. [Insert rant here]. Original direction: Templates! Can we do something about templates? "Designer eye for the template guy" -- who's game?
