A FEW WORDS ABOUT "UNEXPECTED"

Jay Allen's recent post documents his response to Unexpected, Market Street.

Upon reflection, I should have posted a few words about my experience given that the majority of the emails I received asked after the health of the individual.

1. He was not dead.

2. I did not see the accident, only a small moment in the aftermath. A passerby (I'm assuming with some medical knowledge) pulled a pair of latex gloves from his pocket, knelt to talk to the man who lay prone on the street and took his pulse. The victim (I'm not sure if that's the correct word) was awake and seemingly alert. A fire truck arrived and the samaritan doctor was shooed away with great haste and questioned as the first responders took over. In all, perhaps a minute had passed and I continued down Market Street.

3. What intrigues me about this photograph is the variety of expressions of those standing on the platform and the gentle care of the two who attempt to make the fellow comfortable.
