Bug was buzzed by a hawk in Buena Vista this afternoon. While I've heard of stories of chihuahuas being attacked or carried off, and been warned by people in the park ("watch out for the hawks!"), Derek convinced me ("that's crazy talk") that it wouldn't happen to us.

Bug had run ahead in search of squirrels and was alone on the open path when the hawk swooped down within a few feet of him. I scooped up Chieka and we ran yelling ("he's not a bunny!") down the path. The hawk followed us for a few minutes, flying from tree to tree. Bug resumed his patrol as Derek and I looked warily upwards.
